ADVANCED PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID (PSA: 6 hrs)
Geared towards front line workers, this course is essential for those seeking to understand the underlying dynamics of trauma. The workshop applies the eight principles of PSA to advanced work with survivors of complex trauma. The four main types of trauma are explored along with their variables and clinical prognoses. Attachment theory, the stress continuum, and the neurobiology of trauma are also discussed. This highly recommended course has been delivered to hundreds of front line workers across Canada.
THE BIOLOGY OF INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE (2 hrs)
This workshop provides an introduction to the neurophysiological changes underlying the behaviour of both perpetrators and their victims. It is recommended for front line workers and first responders likely to encounter situations involving domestic violence.
TRAUMATIC MEMORY AND EYE-WITNESS TESTIMONY (2 hrs)
This workshop discusses the impact of traumatic stress on eye-witness testimony. It provides valuable insight into witness behaviour for police officers, crown attorneys, judges and others.
THE MOURNING AFTER: RE-CREATING MEANING AFTER TRAUMATIC LOSS (1 hr)
This presentation is geared towards family members of victims of suicide or homicide, as well as their support networks. It focuses on the role of meaning-making in the survivor's journey of recovery.
HEALING TRAUMA IN THE FAMILY CIRCLE: FROM DISSOLUTION TO RESOLUTION (6 hrs)
Using an attachment perspective, this workshop explores alternative measures for preserving the nuclear family in the face of violence, addiction, and possible incarceration. It is especially valuable to Aboriginal communities with a high incidence of involvement in the Justice and Child Welfare systems.
VICARIOUS TRAUMA AND MORAL INJURY IN FRONTLINE POLICING (2 hrs)
This workshop is targeted specifically to law enforcement personnel and the people who manage them. It explores the psychological implications of chronic trauma exposure for police officers working on the frontline.
PROFILING VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING (3 hrs)
